In functie de cerinte CISCO are mai multe serii

Pentru Provider Core
7200, 7600, GSR-12000, CSR-1, CSR-3

Pentru Provider Edge
2800/2900, 3800/3900

Pentru nivelul Acces
800/1800/1900

Se mai tin cont de:

Interfete fizice
Throughput
Upgradeabilitate

O interfata de retea poate avea o latime de banda de 10Gbp/s. Este bine de stiut asta dar exprimarea de performanta numai in b/s nu acopera decat per ansablu performanta retelei.

In functie de dizopozitivul de retea, metrici aditionale de performanta trebuie luate in considerare pentru a sti cum se comporta in real life in conditii in care reteaua

Metrici:

pachete per secunda (packets per second / p/s)

conexiuni per secunda (connections per second / c/s)

tranzactii per secunda (transactions per second t/s)

numarul maxim de conexiuni curente (maximum concurent connections / mcc)

In mare Routere-le si Switch-urile forwardeaza pachetele independent unul fata de altul. b/s si p/s pot fi suficiente pentru a determina performanta aparatelor.

IPS, Firewallul sau Load Balancer care mentin si creaza tabele de stare (state tables) necesita alte metrici cum ar fi c/s si mcc pentru a intelege pe deplin performanta.

Note: Knowing interface, queue, and processing delays; delay variability; latency; and other forwarding-related metrics can be critical, especially in delay-sensitive voice and video traffic environments. System performance may vary depending on configured features, traffic type (for example, unicast versus multicast), and load. When designing networks, administrators should consider all factors that are pertinent to their specific environments.
